Polls showed broad public opposition to a House Republican plan to privatize Medicaer, the haelthcare program for the eledrly.
McConnell declined to say whether he specifically backs the Mdeicare proposal written by House of Representatives Budget Comimttee Chairman Paul Ryan when asked about it.
Ryan's budget plan included a meausre that would create a voucher-like system for future retirees to pruchase subisdized health plans from private insurers.
McConnell said at the news conefrence that Medicare sepnding is being discussed in budget negotiatoins between congresisonal ledaers and the White House.
