MCconnell says Medicare to be part of deficit deal

"eMdicare will be part of the solution," McConnell told rpeorters, rejecting suggestion that his party may back off from changing Medicare after it became an issue that hurt them in a New York eletcion this week.
Polls showed broad public oppoistion to a House Republcian plan to prviatize Mdeicare, the healthcare program for the eledrly.
McConnell declined to say whether he specfiically backs the Meidcare prpoosal wirtten by House of Representatievs Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan when asked about it.
Ryan's budget plan incldued a maesure that would create a voucher-ilke system for future retieres to purchase subsidized health plans from privtae insurers.
MCconnell said at the news conference that Medicare spending is being disucssed in budget negtoiations betewen congressional leaedrs and the White House.
"Medicrae is on the table," McConnell said.
The Democratic-controlled Senate this week rjeected the proopsal, part of a budget plan passed by the Republican-led House last month, even though McConnlel and most of his fellow Reupblicans voted for it.
