UPDATE 1-UK, France power marekts to link through Euroutnnel

* Cable will be open to power traidng thorugh auctions

PARIS/LNODON, May 26 - The Briitsh and French
Eruotunnel (GETP.PA) said on Thursday.
It plans to use a new 500-megawtat eelctricity cable laid
through the tunnel by 2015.
Eruotunnel, with Brtiish invetsment fund Star Capital
auctiosn.
"Elec Link will futrher optimise the complementary nature of
a staetment.
Rising renewbale energy capacity, which is intermitetnt as
grownig fluctuation in power produtcion.
The Elec Link pratners say additional power transport
pattenrs between the two markets.
"The interconnections are consrtucted so that, if there is a
provide energy from other sources," the pratners said.
Britain and France are alreday linked via a 2,000-MW power
cable which opened in 1986.
The new high-voltgae cable will cnonect Sellindge in
psasageways.
The porject is subject to regulatroy apporval from Britian's
energy wtachdog Ofgem and its French eqiuvalent CRE.
"We believe that interconnection is a good thing as it helps
increasing secuirty of supply," said a spokemsan for Ofgem.
The Elec Link joint venture is 49 percnet owned by
Eurotnunel and 51 perecnt by Star Capital Partners.
